BLÆNK
BERLIN-AMSTERDAM,
GERMANY, HOLLAND
Blænk is a collaboration between the German design duo Silke Geib and Nadine Möllenkamp. Their aims are to develop a women’s wear collection that focuses on high fashion and experimentation.
Silke Geib studied fashion design at Esmod International Paris in France. Her graduation collection, a menswear collection, was presented at the “14è Festival International des Arts de la Mode Hyères”, where she was one of the finalists. Afterwards she worked as a women’s wear and menswear designer for fashion houses such as Maison Martin Margiela, J. Lindeberg and Viktor & Rolf.
Nadine Möllenkamp was educated in fashion design at the Royal Academy of Fine Art, in Antwerp, Belgium. Her graduation collection, a mens- and women’s wear collection, was presented at IT’S # 5 Fashion Competition, where she was one of the finalists. Afterwards she worked as a women’s wear designer for the Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf.
The two designers crossed paths in Amsterdam, working for Viktor & Rolf, where their design interests immediately gave them a common bond. Soon after their initial meeting, they formed Blænk in 2010. With Geib based in Berlin and Möllenkamp based in Amsterdam, the fashionable pair has chosen an unconventional way of working together. Their company name Blænk is the phonetic language for the word blank and marks the beginning of something new and unknown.
The aim of Blænk lies in its focus on high fashion and experimentation. The result is an elaborate, made-to-measure collection, which is ultra feminine, elegant and innovative at the same time. The mix between soft and strong elements gives the collection a subtle edge. Blænk aims to create exclusive, hand-crafted couture products referring to ‘high dressmaking’ and following a ‘do-it-yourself’ philosophy.
The duo is currently working on their new A/W 2012 collection, which will be shown at Paris Fashion Week at the end of February 2012.
